What is BIM?
Building Information Modeling (BIM) is the process of standardizing, organizing and sharing project information from design to construction, allowing all functions and disciplines to collaborate on a universal platform. BIM uses 3D information models to maintain consistent and coordinated planning, design, construction and operational data.
BIM is redefining productivity in construction, and represents the “next generation” in residential construction design. Revit is the most widely used BIM technology, but was specific to commercial construction. By working with the technlogy desired by most designers and automating the features residential builders most frequently use, the introduction of VisionREZ has made Revit simple for residential contruction use.
How does BIM change the process?
The traditional construction process is burdened with waste and inefficiencies. Prior to BIM, each shareholder in the process created and maintained their own project data. This data was not shared in real time, which led to waste, detail duplication, errors and version control issues.
BIM creates a platform for collaboration and sharing. It allows all disciplines and trades to collaborate on the same 3D building information model. This impacts the entire construction value chain.
